You're thinking of Nora Maki's HADES HAM JOURNAL I believe. It used to air on Fridays and the description you provided sounds like some of what Nora Maki wrote. I found a show that she and I did together in December of 1999 when HADES HAM JOURNAL ended to commemorate the series and replay some of the classic pieces.
